Sterling Gross was born in Boston, Massachusetts and grew up surrounded by the nature of the New Hampshire woods. He received his undergraduate degree in Painting and Art History at Susquehanna University, and is currently going for his masters degree in Museum Studies through the Harvard Extension School.
Sterling thinks of his art as an extension of storytelling, drawing on many inspirations from throughout history, stretching from Paleolithic cave paintings to fantastic myths and novels. Whether it is through simple figural motifs, or complex subtle details, he aims to create a compelling narrative that acts as a catalyst for personal growth and developing meaningful connections between the natural world, viewers, and himself.
Sterling works mainly in oil paints, but enjoys dabbling in charcoals, ink, and raw ochre pigments.
